1 – Award for Conservation of Architectural Heritage – 1988
This award was presented to the Historical Buildings Section of Dubai Municipality in recognition of its efforts in restoring the Sheikh Saeed House. The house, which dates back to 1896, was built at a total area of 3600 square meters. The two-storied house has two main entrances, several rooms and vast terraces. Architectural skills of the bygone era are evident in its construction. The ambitious Dhs8 million renovation project, which began in 1986, saw the building’s restoration to its former glory. The building now houses an impressive exhibition of photographs, paintings, lithographs and art objects that vividly portray the early development of the emirate.
